The test knit for this pattern was held in my group thread from December 26, 2014 to January 5, 2015.

Why can’t men see the benefit of a cowl? It is easy to put on and take off. It is warm, and there is no need to worry about dropping it or dragging it, unlike a scarf, right? Why do men think a cowl is only for women?! It is not.

My husband has enough hats and scarves that I have knit for him. He refuses to wear a cowl and even to model one. I had to ask my brother-in-law. First, he said, “Well, I do not like things around my neck, but I am happy to be a model for you.” As soon as he put this cowl on, he paused for a moment and said, “Can I keep this?”

I give you a base pattern for this “Manly Sporty Cowl” and you decide where and how many cables to include, using the worksheet provided. It will be your own design.

So talk to your husband, sons, father, and brothers, ask him what color he likes, then knit this cowl for his taste since you know him best and he doesn’t know anything about a cowl. Does he like stripes? Does he like cables? A few cables or many cables? Do they need to be lined up or placed at random? Yes, you can adjust the size, of course!

Skills required: k, p, 6 stitch cable (C6B/C6F), Cable CO

Finished size (unblocked): 10” high x 12” circumference (25.4cm x 30.5cm) when not stretched. It can stretch up to 22”(56cm)

The size is easy to customize by changing the number of stitches CO and by knitting to your preferred height.
