Melange baby Jacket
This little raglan cardigan is knitted on a circular needle in rows (body) and rounds (sleeves), bottom-up, and with a minimum of sewing. The neck is shaped softly in short rows and requires no additional edging. The samples shown are made out of sock yarn, because this yarn doesn’t itch, and looks good even after several turns in the washing machine. The mélange mix is perfect for those annoying stains kids tend to get all the time… They simply won’t show!
Find yourself some nice fingering yarn (in two different colours to get the effect I got) and then use it doubled, or use any other yarn that give you the gauge you need in this pattern. For these samples I used one strand of self-coloured/painted yarn and one in off white.
Materials: 4-6 skeins of LØVE Baby og Hosegarn (200-300g, 210m or 230 yards/50g), 2-3 skeins of each shade (30 and 8204) to get the tweed effect.
Other yarn recommendations: Coats Funny Strumpf (07064) with Shoppel-Wolle Admiral R druck (1458) or Shoppel-Wolle Wunderkleks (2140) or any other Zauberball. Greenish sample in size 62/68cl required exactly 2/3 of each skein = 66g of Coats Funny Strumpf (07064) and 66 g of Shoppel-Wolle Crazy Zauberball (1660).
Gauge: 20 sts and 25-27 rows to 10 cm/ 4” on size US 7 – 4.5mm needles over stockinette sts. Getting row gauge exact is not that important as we mainly will be using measurements instead of rows.
Size: to fit size 62/68cl – 74/80cl – 86/92cl (6/9 – 12/18 – 18/24 months) Sizing differs hugely in knitting patterns, so please check target child’s measurements and then choose your size! Samples shown in 62/68 (greenish) and 86/92 (pink-purple)
