This mid-gauge cardigan has a short-rowed front for a stylish slant up from the bottom edge. The front opening is also V-slanted and trimmed in a wide 2-row garter stitch band that lies flat without any ruffling.

Knitting Machine:
Mid-gauge: Silver Reed LK-150 or 160/860, Brother 350 or similar machine. A bulky machine may produce proper gauge at a lower tension. In the larger sizes, however, you will have to knit two back pieces instead of one because the Bulky machines do not have sufficient needles

Garter Rows:
The bottom of each piece and the front bands are knit in two-row garter. That is, two rows purl and two rows knit. You can use a garter bar to turn the work every two rows or you can put the knitting on waste yarn and rehang the stitches after turning the work. Alternatively, you can hand knit these sections: cast-on the number of stitches indicated and purl two rows and then knit two rows. If using a garter bar, I find it fastest to knit the two rows, and then set your carriage to slip. Move the carriage to the other side, set carriage to knit, and then flip your knitting.
