Miss Fanny is a fabulous fox! She is the latest in our pocket pal series, and quite possibly my favorite so far. Like our other Pocket Pals, she has a tummy pocket that can hold treasures or secrets in a little notebook. She can be easily knit in a variety of sizes by varying your yarn weight and adjusting your needle size accordingly.
The pattern includes detailed instructions for two sizes. The mini fox is knit with sock yarn and measures 7 inches from the top of the head to the tips of the toes. The maxi fox is knit with a bulky weight yarn and measures 18 inches. For the maxi fox you will need 1 skein each of orange and white. It is knit with size 7 (4.5mm) needles with a gauge of 9 stitches and 12 rows to 2 inches in stockinette stitch. You will also need 2-5 yards of black yarn in addition to the colors listed above.
For all you sock knitters out there, the mini fox is a perfect and adorable way to use up leftover sock yarn in your stash.
This pattern features short rows, double knitting, knitting in the round and stranded color work. It includes charts as well as links to photo tutorials on the internet. While these are more challenging techniques for a beginning knitter, we think a toy is the perfect, low pressure place to try them out.
(The pattern also includes a printed ruler. To be sure it’s accurate, print this pattern at full size.)
