Missouri Mariner
In a landlocked state, seafarer envy is real and it is biting. My bandaid solution is donning a little watch cap beanie and braving the cold in style. Welcome to the stage… Missouri Mariner!! The perfect fisherman’s style cap, for non-fishermen.
This is a quick project- made from the bottom up. The cast-on edge is knit together to form a thick brim, which can be worn folded up in true fisherman’s style, or down for a slouchier look.
The body of the hat features wide panels of knit and purl texture. Crown shaping is done on either side of the purl panels and the hat is finished by grafting the purl panels together.
Sizes:
Child (teen) adult medium (adult large)
to fit a head size of
18-20” (20-22”) 22-23” (23-24”)
hat finished measurements
18” (19”) 20” (21”)
Estimated yarn requirements:
169 (177) 186 (220) yards
155 (162) 170 (201) meters
Yarn and gauge:
I used Briggs & Little Tuffy, an aran-weight two-ply yarn and a size US 8 (5mm) needle. You should use whichever yarn/needle combination gets gauge.
16sts X 24rows in stockinette stitch after blocking. Stitch gauge is more important than row gauge for this pattern.
Notions:
- size US 8 (5mm) 16” & size 8 32” circular needle for magic loop
- 5 stitch markers, 1 unique for BOR
- darning needle to graft and weave in ends
