Note: all individual mosaic patterns come from Barbara Walker’s books. The instructions for putting them together in unique ways is what you are paying for, and the instruction for how to actually work it, is unique to me.

MOSAIC KNITTING is not Fair Isle or Stranded work, and depends solely on slipping stitches. You work with only ONE color of yarn at a time!! Each color is worked for 2 rows--a forward pass and a return row. They are both worked on the same stitches, but you slip with the yarn in different directions on the return pass. You can work both ‘knit’, and the effects will be different, but you will have to slip the stitches with yarn in front on all the slipped stitches, on the return row, which is harder. The effects that can be achieved are lovely! If you purl the return row, you just keep the yarn where it is.

Play with COLOR. Use a different solid color for each motif section, keeping the background the same. I’d love to see what you do!

Yarn usage: Color A (contrast purple) about 300 g
Yarn usage: Color B (main grey) about 500 g

Yarn usage will be dependent on your needle size and tension, and the relative ‘weight’ of the yarn.

The last of the MOSAIC added Aug 12. Each week, I added a pattern to the blanket and the pdf until there are six patterns. Each pattern knits up approximately 4.5-6 inches. The final blanket will depend on the yarn you use and the gauge you get. If you are knitting with regular worsted, I suggest using a slightly smaller needle and your blanket will finish slightly smaller as well.

Also, there is a TUTORIAL (very detailed) on the method of this pattern in my BAWL (block a week long) group on the Vanna’s Choice Fan Club. The tutorial has more rows, and the blanket here is worked up the the solid stripe (from the right) and then goes into a new pattern next week.
