On a quest to find a mitten that fit snugly and stayed in place, I wrote the thumb shaping slightly differently to your traditional mitten. Rib all over makes for super stretchy mitts, with a tiny insert of stranded work bordered by Vikkel braids to add interest and stability around the cuff.

These were designed as a stashbusting project to use up small quantities of DK weight yarn - only small oddments of the contrast colours are required. Sample shown uses M: Louisa Harding Grace (discontinued), C1: Sublime Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK, C2: Rowan Alpaca Classic DK. These yarns don’t all have similar fibre content and therefore aren’t technically a perfect match, but they worked well together and used up the stash! So long as the yarns aren’t drastically different in thickness (ie. one particularly fine DK with another particularly thick), combining different yarns should be fine.

Size: Unstretched, blocked, mitten measures 31.5cm from cuff to tip and 14 cm palm circumference. Comfortably stretches to fit a hand with 20.5 cm palm circumference.

Needles and notions: 1 set 3.25mm (US 3) DPNS or long circular for magic loop, whichever is your preferred method of working small diameters. You will also need 1 stitch marker, waste yarn, and a tapestry needle.
