This pattern is for the train engine and carriage, the mouse, its hat, jacket, trousers and lantern!

The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.

You will need:

Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Patons Smoothie DK yarn for the majority of my project (this is quite a thick DK yarn so it is equivalent to aran or light worsted weight in other brands) and the engine section of my finished train measures approximately 16cm long and 13cm tall. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn to make both your train, the mouse & the clothing to ensure that they will fit.

For the mice, you will need the following colours:
• Main mouse colour - I used pale grey (approx. 23.5m per mouse).
• Nose / ears / feet / tail colour - I used pale pink (approx. 13m per mouse).

For the train driver’s clothing, you will need the following colours:
• Hat & waistcoat colour - I used dark blue (approx. 11.5m).
• Trousers colour - I used dark grey (approx. 11.5m).

For the engine section, you will need the following colours:
• Main engine colour - I used red (approx. 123m).
• Base, wheels & roof colour - I used dark grey (approx. 136m).
• Highlight colour - I used pale yellow (approx. 25.5m).
• Bell & lantern colour - I used dark yellow (approx. 4m).

For the carriage section, you will need the following colours:
• Carriage darker colour - I used dark blue (approx. 82.5m per carriage).
• Carriage lighter colour - I used pale blue (approx. 44.5m per carriage).
• Wheels colour - I used dark grey (approx. 22.5m per carriage).
• Highlight colour - I used pale yellow (approx. 12m per carriage).

Please Note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.

You will also need:

• A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
• Pairs of 6mm black safety eyes for each mouse that you decide to make.
• Some toy stuffing.
• Some finer yarn or thread for adding the details to the mouse’s face and for adding the name of the train. I used black & pale yellow.
• ‘7 count’ plastic canvas. I had a 26cm x 33cm sheet (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches). To make the engine and 2 carriages I used 2 sheets. A higher count (that’s the number of holes per inch) will mean the plastic is more bendy so stick to 7 count if possible.
• 2 small buttons for the clothes (and a needle and thread with which to attach them).
• A medium button for every carriage that you decide to make.
• Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you.
