Make a jolly felted friend for the holidays! Lovable Mr. Snowman is knit using short rows, then felted and embellished. Use glue, buttons and needle felting to give yours a unique personality – and don’t forget to knit him a hat & scarf to warm his heart, and yours!

Use a 100% wool yarn, or wool blended with other animal fibers, such as mohair or alpaca. Make sure your yarn is not labeled “superwash”. Note that most pure white yarns do not felt, due to the bleaching process. For example: Cascade 220 #8505 (white) does not felt. Instead use an off-white such as #8010 (natural), check with the manufacturer, or do a test swatch.

Extras: 1 stitch marker; a pair of old pantyhose and fiberfill for stuffing; tapestry needle; glue suitable for use on felt; lid from frozen juice can for base.

Optional: embellishment materials of your choice. Mr. Snowman’s hat and scarf used about 25 yards of scrap yarn. His eyes & mouth are needle-felted with a small amount of black roving – alternatively, you could use a fabric marker, or beads; his buttons are glued on.
