This is a top-down, half-circle shawlette inspired by the main character in Kate Chopin’s novella, “The Awakening.” The main body of the shawl is worked in one simple lace design, then the border comes along and transforms everything.

This pattern is suitable for the beginning lace knitter; it includes written instructions and simple terminology. The lace pattern repeats are easy to memorize, making it a light and fun knit for the experienced knitter as well.

Skills needed: K, P, KFB, YO, K2Tog, SKP

The finished dimensions of this shawl are 47 inches (119.5 cm) across the top and 16 inches (40.5 cm) deep at the center. These measurements were made with the shawl blocked but not stretched.
