Munklinde
The name Munklinde dates back as far as 1495 and is described as “surrounded by several thousand acres of heath and bog. No one knows for sure who the “monk” (munk) was nor whether there were linden trees or perhaps a “lein” (hill). Today, Munklinde is also the name of this short, wide sweater knitted in beautiful lambswool.
The Munklinde pattern is inspired by a beautiful ornate platter from The David Collection of art and artifacts on display in Copenhagen.
Though little is known about the platter’s origins, its intricate pattern seems perfectly at home with the small village in Central Jutland.
Four elements from the platter have been reimagined in the design of this sweater.
The narrow bands that divide the platter into circular segments are echoed in the lines of the yoke.
A small, delicate floral motif has been enlarged and given pride of place at the center of the yoke.
A trefoil clover on the platter’s edge inspired the dominant pattern found on the body and sleeves.
Finally, both the sleeves and body are finished with a refined cable border, drawn directly from a cable motif on the platter itself.
