I made the extended size, so cast on 162 sts. for the middle section. Do not crochet AT ALL - so picked up and knit row 1, row 2: yo, k2tog, row 3: knit, row 4: BO 2 sts, * sl rem st on right hand needle; using cable cast-on, CO 3 sts, then BO 5 sts; rep from * until 1 st rem. Fasten off.
