Nadeshiko = Gillyflower in Japanese

A crescent shaped shawl knit in Quince & Co. Piper. After you knit a fan shape with simple stockinette with purl ridges, the fun lace part comes. The lace pattern is simple enough for beginners but creates delicate drape, especially with the soft mohair yarn. It will make a great companion for chilly spring evenings.

Yarn
Heavy lace weight yarn
Approximately 540 yards / 495 m
2 skeins of Quince & Co. Piper (50 % Texas super kid mohair / 50 % Texas superfine merino; 305 yards / 50g).
Sample shown in Odessa

Needle
A US 4 (3.5 mm) 24” / 60 cm (or longer) circular needle or needle to obtain gauge

Gauge (after blocking)
22 sts and 32 rows = 4” / 10 cm in St st
Gauge is not crucial, but final dimensions and yardage used will be affected if gauge differs from above

Size
70” / 178 cm wingspan x 20” / 50 cm depth at center

Tools
Stitch markers (10), tapestry needle, T-pins, blocking wires (optional)

Notes
• Shawl begins with a cast on of 4 sts and shaped outward with increases - first the half-pi method, transitioning into double increases at the two side edges every RS row (with Kfb increases during the textured knit-purl section, double-yarnover increases during the lace sections).
• Additional shaping increases occur at various sections; with the exception of these areas, stitch count will grow at a rate of 4 sts every other row.
• Shawl edges are comprised of St st for the first 3 and last 3 sts of each row, outside of the shawl increases.
