About this design
“What’s black and white and red all over? – A newspaper of course!”

This Infinity Scarf/Cowl design was inspired by a simple children’s riddle, soft squishy alpaca fibre and the desire to design something that was warm and stylish and mostly easy to knit. The design has lots of simple garter stitch but is given some pep by including intarsia colour changing, garter stitch grafting, rolled i-cord edges and i-cord bind offs, just to keep things interesting. The central part of the Newsworthy Infinity Scarf/Cowl is knitted flat and then joined with a garter stitch graft. Stitches are then knitted up along each side of the central panel and the Infinity Scarf/Cowl is completed in the round before each edge is finished with an i-cord bind-off. The extra effort in finishing the Infinity Scarf/Cowl this way ensures that both the right and the wrong sides look terrific.

Many thanks to Lucy Neatby for inspiring me with this technique through her gorgeous Lucky Number Hat 111 pattern.

The Newsworthy Infinity Scarf is partnered by Newsworthy Fingerless Mittens (small, medium, large).

Size
One size fits all (adult).
Finished dimensions for the Infinity Scarf are 132 cm/56 inches in circumference and 16 cm/6 ¼ inches in width.
Finished dimensions for the Cowl are 70 cm/27 ½ inches in circumference and 28 cm/11 inches in width.

Tension
22 stitches x 44 rows over 10 cm/4 inches measured on a blocked garter stitch swatch knitted flat using 3.5 mm (US size 4, UK size 9) needles. A perfect match for tension is not super critical for this pattern. However, if your gauge is significantly different, move up or down a needle size and swatch one more time. Also, you may find that you use more or less yarn if your gauge is significantly different.

Yarn
Any double knit/8 ply yarn that knits to the tension gauge, but preferably something soft and smooshy. This is an excellent pattern for using up odd balls of yarn.
