I was asked to make a White Sox hat first, so I designed a quick and easy way to knit one with gently curved earflaps that do not curl. I then decided to try to make a plain two colored hat with a pom-pom, a flowered baby girl hat without a pom-pom, and the crazy rockhopper penguin hat just because I love penguins.

I offer complete instructions on creating the short-rowed earflaps. You won’t believe how easy they are! Instructions are also included for all the other embellishments pictured (except the Sox logo) including how to do a Turkish Cast-On if you decide to do the penguin hat. So…if you are an experienced beginner wanting to learn some new techniques, this is the perfect opportunity.

The edging uses single crochet. I am not a crocheter, but even I can single crochet around the edge!! The flower is also crocheted with instructions given. If you are new to crochet, do an Internet search for single, double and half-double crochet. If you don’t want to do that, just attach a bow or flower barrette that can be purchased at a craft store!!!

These hats make adorable baby gifts or donations to your local hospital’s baby nursery.

The yarn I recommend is Hobby Lobby’s “I Love This Yarn” 100% acrylic (med wt #4). It is very soft and easy to work with.
