What could be cooler than a pair of knitted nunchuks, traditionally used in kung fu? All the fun of whapping, with none of the pain.

This is one of six patterns from Kung Fu Knits, a combined pattern book / comic book forthcoming in mid-September 2014.

Materials

  • Berroco Vintage (50% acrylic, 40% wool, 10% nylon; 217 yds / 198m per 100g skein); Crimson #5154; 1 skein (project only uses 60 yds / 55m)
  • US #5 / 3.75mm needles for small-circumference circular knitting: dpns, long circular for magic loop, or two circulars, as you prefer
  • Size G crochet hook – or any size hook that works comfortably with your cord
  • Leather, hemp, or plastic jewelry cord, 1mm thick and at least 2 yds / 1.75m long (available at craft stores) Alternatively, you can use 0.5mm-thick cord held double, as shown here. Just make sure to purchase at least 4 yds / 3.75m.
  • Fiberfill or yarn scraps to stuff the nunchuks
  • Sewing thread in same color as yarn and sewing needle (optional)
