This pattern is written a little differently from most patterns. I wanted to try writing a pattern that was a little less formula and a little more conversation, but because of that it does require some level of familiarity with crochet construction and stitches. It also allows the creator to customize the size to their specifications without having to do endless math calculations (it also saved me from having to do that :)and should hopefully still work well.
