Palessie is a marshy region lining the Pripyat River in Southern Belarus, Northern Ukraine, and partly in Poland and Russia.
Palessie is an airy summery shawl with beautiful and simple lace pattern that changes direction from repeat to repeat and picot BO edging. Instructions include a beaded BO instructions as well. The shawl is seamless and knitted top-down from the central neck stitches to the edge. The shawl has crescent shape.
The sample shawl in the photographs after blocking was 212 cm (83.5 inches) for the straight edge on the top of the shawl and 49 cm (19 inches) for the height of the shawl at the center. You can easily change the shawl’s size by knitting more or less pattern repeats.
The gauge is not critical in knitting this shawl. Adjust your needle size to suit your yarn and achieve the size and the look of the shawl of your choice. Keep in mind that shawl grows significantly in size after blocking.
