This pattern was born out of a need to just cast on something mindless but also somewhat engaging, during a period of my life where there was just a lot going on, from grief of loosing a loved one, to dealing with the Covid Pandemic, to having just completed a large scale design project, and frankly not having the brain space to do anything more complex for a while.

I had these skeins of handspun yarn just waiting to be cast on so I grabbed them and got going, I didn’t even want to think about winding yarn at this point! … I took notes along the way and this pattern was not only exactly what I needed at this point but it was also a super quick knit.

I have now decided to use this design for a new Knit With Me Series I will be hosting over on my Youtube Channel. The videos will be publicly available for free and we will walk through all of the different steps of knitting this pattern together in a series of videos. While the videos will go into detail about the design if you want the specifics you will need to have a copy of the pattern as well.

However, I really want this design to be accessible to as many as possible so along with my usual 3 coupon codes I’m adding a 4th option to get the pattern at 80% off the list price. These codes will always be active and the videos will always be available so there is no fear of missing out if you are unable to start straight away!

PAY WHAT WORKS

I have created THREE coupon codes so you can either purchase the pattern for full price, or with 20%, 40% or 60% discounts. I wanted to provide this pattern with a range of pricing options as I know not everyone can afford patterns at full cost. If you would like to support my channel and the work I am doing, and you have the means to do so then paying for this pattern at one of the higher price points is a great way to do that.

The listed price most accurately reflects the time and work that went into creating this pattern, however, if this is not financially accessible for you then please use one of the codes below.

20% off code - PWW20
40% off code - PWW40
60% off code - PWW60
80% off code - PWW80

What you will need:

Yarn – Approx. 500gm-600gm of a DK-Worsted/Bulky Handspun Yarn (approx. 800m/875yd – 1,000m/1,093yd total) – You will want approx. 200-220gm of a Main Colour Yarn and approx. 100-120gm each in 3 Contrast Colour yarns (you can also opt to make a smaller shawl by only using 2 contrast colours)

If you wish to use a commercially spun yarn rather than handspun then you will need approximately 800m/875yd to 1,000m/1,093yd of a DK or Worsted/Bulky weight yarn (any yarn that is approx. 160m/175yd to 200m/220yd per 100gm).

This pattern is designed to be adaptable to any amount of yarn you have so if you have more or less than this you can continue knitting the pattern to use up as much of your yarn as you want.

Needles – 5mm (US8) or 6mm (US 10) needles on a Long Cable to accommodate all the stitches - the size needles you will need will depend on your yarn, finer yarn closer to a DK will need 5mm (US8) needles and heavier yarn closer to a Worsted/Bulky will need 6mm (US10) needles.

Notions

  • 4 Stitch Markers
  • Tapestry Needles for weaving in end

Gauge – Approx 12 sts / 4 inches in garter stitch after gentle blocking (although gauge is really not too important with this shawl as long as you are liking the fabric you are getting).

Finished Size of Shawl – 203cm (80 inches) on the longest edge & 84cm (33 inches) at the deepest point.
