Our first grandson arrived in August of 2022 and, after making many sweet Mary Jane shoes with little white socks attached, I decided to come up with something for a little boy. Penny loafer sock booties were the result. The pattern is full of pictures and has a video to get you started on the first couple of rows, so there is no guess work. The soles are knitted flat, then the sides of the loafers are knitted in the round. The front ‘tab’ and ‘penny band’ are knitted separately and whip stitched to the bootie. Then stitches are picked up for the attached sock portion of the bootie. There are pictures describing every step. Any sock weight yarn that is about about 200-230 yards in 50 grams will work. You’ll need brown or black for the loafer and white or ivory for the sock… or whatever you like!. I was pleased with the result, as they stay on his little feet!
