These textured lace fingerless mitts that are worked flat, then seamed—no dpns required. Knit in fingering or light fingering weight yarn, they’re named after the spicy Christmas cookie called Peppernut or Pfeffernuesse.
The mitts are available as an individual pattern and as part of the Peppernut Set, which includes both the Peppernut Shawl and Mitts.
Sizes: Small (7 inches/18 cm long by 6.75 inches/17 cm wide before seaming, measured at garter stitch cuff) and Medium/Large (7.5 inches/19 cm long by 7.25 inches/18.5 cm wide before seaming, measured at garter stitch cuff)
Yardage: 150 yards/137 m fingering weight yarn. The sample shown in the photos was knit with Bare Naked Wools Stone Soup fingering 80% wool, 15% alpaca, 5% combination of Tencel, bamboo, silk, and bison; 475yd/434m per 3.5oz/100g skein in the Pumice colorway.
Needles: US #2/2.75mm and US #3/3.25mm needles for the small size; US #3/3.25mm and US #4/3.50mm for the medium/large size
Pattern difficulty: Intermediate/confident beginner. Experience reading charts (or willingness to learn) and some experience with lace knitting are helpful.
Skills required: Casting on, knitting, purling, increases and decreases, yarn overs, binding off, reading charts. Stitch patterns are provided in charts.
