As featured in KnitCrate’s Crochet Crate for June 2017.

I had the amazing privilege of working with the awesome team at KnitCrate for this intermediate shawl design for their June 2017 CrochetCrate that, coupled with Red Head Fibers Fingering in Peaches, reminds me of phoenix feathers.

A symbol of renewal and rebirth, the inspiration of the phoenix is present both in the tonal changes of the yarn and the stitch construction, creating this half-circle shawl that will encourage you to spread your wings and fly.

This pattern uses both back and front post stitches in combination with our favorite basics of single, half double, double, and treble crochets. One special stitch, which I refer to as the feather stitch, has both written instructions and a photo tutorial to show you how to make it and where to place your stitches.

The shawl is easily adjustable to be bigger or smaller depending on the amount of yarn used. It’s best made with light fingering or fingering weight yarn that takes to blocking well so the stitches open up.

This pattern has come along at the perfect time for me as I prepare for a new birth in my life in the next month or so as our family welcomes our sweet Little Miss :)
