pianissimo: “very soft” in musical terminology
This is an asymmetrical top, reminiscent of the Grace Kelly 1950s era, but with a modern edge. It has a built-in slip with a sheer overlay, that is knitted on the bias. It has a draped and pleated neckline, gathered straps, a low back, and lace details.

This top would be lovely with in any kind of laceweight yarn: soft, fuzzy mohair to crisp linen.

Gauge with US 3/ 3.25 mm: 31 sts x 32 rows = 4inches/10 cm
Gauge with US 6/ 4.0mm: 22 sts x 28 rows = 4 in/ 10 cm

Tip: Some have been interested in modifying the pattern to enlarge the bustline, but have been uncertain on how to modify the bias overlay. Here are some tips:
Section 3: Beg of RS Row: Step 2: Inc 2 sts at beg of each row
(This will widen the left side of the piece near the bustline).
Section 5: End of RS Row: Step 2: (make no decreases)
(This will widen the right side of the piece near the bustline).

Keep in mind that adding sts will change the st count. Which means that the sts that you will BO for the neckline will be different. Simply keep track of how many sts you have added to each side, and add that to the number of sts that you will BOon each sidefor the neckline.

Since this is not officially part of the pattern, I do not have the final bust measurements if you make the bust modification.

Overlay pattern:

SECTION 2: Beg of RS rows:Continue to shape left side edge
Step 1:Inc 2 sts at beg of RS
Step 2: Inc 1 st at beg of next RS
Step 3:Repeat Step 2 1(3, 0, 1, 3) times.

End of RS rows:AT THE SAME TIME, continue to shape bottom edge
Step 1:Inc 2 sts at end of RS row (instead of beg of RS row)
Step 2:Inc 1 st at end of next RS row (instead of beg of next RS row)
Step 3:Repeat Step 2 1(3, 0, 1, 3) times.
