Pipi is a versatile pattern; knit it in any yarn you like. Choose from four options - two shapes and two stitches. The straight-forward, elegant design lets your yarn shine and is perfect for maximising a special skein.

Pipi is named after a little oval shellfish that is very common in New Zealand.

Yarn quantities & needle size
These are the recommended minimum yarn quantities, you can certainly use more. You might get away with a little less but for an item of a wearable size you are advised to adhere to these minimums.

You should team your yarn with a needle size that gives you a nice drapey fabric. This will be a larger size than that recommended for your yarn if you were knitting a garment. Exact gauge is not critical, recommendations are provided below to give you an idea of the kind of fabric you should be aiming to make.

  • 3.25mm 60cm long circular needle. Gauge in stocking stitch: 28sts and 42 rows in 10cm (4”).

4ply (Sock)

  • 1 skein of Vintage Purls Sock yarn (100g/384m).
