I adore gift wrappings that are pretty and stylish. They make giving gifts that much more fun! These simple drawstring bags are the perfect handmade touch for all those little gifts that are hard to wrap. Not only are they cute and squishy; they’re reusable and eco-friendly, too! Each bag only uses 12-15 yards of worsted weight yarn, so they’re perfect for stash busting. The original sizes of each bag are quite tiny, but there are instructions included for how to size them up.

Note: Gauge is only important if you want to calculate a specific sized finished bag.

Finished sizes (as written):
Straight Bottom Bag -
5 in tall by 4 1/4 in wide
Round Bottom Bag -
3 in tall by 9 in around (at widest point)
Square Bottom Bag -
3 in tall by 2 1/2 in square

Each bag starts with the same number of cast on stitches, with different shaping techniques to make the bottoms. The cast on used in this pattern is a provisional tail tubular cast on, to make the drawstring casing. A photo tutorial is included in the pattern.

These bags are shown decorated with items made with two other wonderful patterns available on Ravelry. They are the Acorn Ornament by Elizabeth Murphy, and Gift Tags by Melankalia Stambaugh.
