This is my very first completed knit item made from yarn that I spun myself, on my spinning wheel. :) It was a bit of an experiment on a few levels: my wanting to actually knit with yarn I made; I wanted to create something that mixed lace and non-lace techniques; and, I’ve been wanting to make a cowl or scarf in the shape of a tube.

Making a tube-shaped cowl and playing with the imagery of pumpkins just made sense, in this case. Because it’s a tube, it’s automatically a double-knit type scarf, making it doubly thick. There’s only a bit of lace work, and only on approximately 1/3 of the cowl, so it won’t be cold on those autumn-to-winter days.

ETA: Revised (corrected!) pattern has been uploaded. :)

Any yarn can be used for this cowl - sport, dk, worsted, or aran. It’s just a matter of adjusting your needle size to make it a tighter knit if using a thicker yarn. As long as it’s all orange and green, it’s good! How great would it be to wear this snuggley cowl on the way to Thanksgiving dinner?
