This soft, airy shrug is perfect for wearing in the summer to keep off breezes when you’re wearing a sleeveless top. I chose to make it in a lightweight yarn with a slight halo, but it would also look beautiful in cotton or silk, or made in a heavier yarn on larger needles for winter.

You could also adapt the design to a stole or wrap – just continue the garter stitch edge all the way down, and perhaps make it a couple of stitches wider to make a more stable edge.

The ‘Queen Bee’ in the title came from the lace’s shape; the neat little hexagons looked like nothing so much as a honey-comb.

Needle size – 3.5mm
Materials – lace-weight yarn with a halo. Amount used varies by size/sleeve length; suggest a minimum of 440 yards

Pattern is both written and charted.
