Lots of cowls are vertical, but I like to see the pattern of what I’m wearing without having to crane my neck or pull it away from me and into my field of vision first. So here’s a cowl with a smaller radius at the top than the bottom, which scrunches nicely and spreads out on the chest and shoulders a little – problem solved! And while we’re at it, might as well use up that skein of fingering yarn and rock some matching fingerless gloves to go with it!

About the pattern:
This cowl and fingerless gloves set is made with the same stitch patterns; because of short rows worked periodically, the cowl radius is smaller on the top than on the bottom. All pieces are worked flat with built-in I-Cord edges – the cowl is joined with Kitchener Stitch, the gloves are sewn together and thumbs (knit separately) sewn in.

The pattern works great with any scrumptious skein of fingering weight you might have in your stash that’s not too boldly patterned; it’s super fun with sparkles, too!
My sample uses a gorgeous limited-edition color by Candy Skein – Luscious has just a bit of cashmere in it, which makes it… well, luscious! :-)

Materials:
240 yds of fingering weight yarn for the cowl, plus 150 yds of fingering weight yarn for the gloves (390 yds total).

1 skein of Candy Skein Luscious (ca 100g / 400yds) in ‘Purple People Eater’
