As a kid I used to spend holidays on a friends farm in a colder region of the North Island, I remember only too well the chilliness of the crisp clear mornings and their magical quality. I also distinctly remember with fondness my fingerless mitts which were an absolute godsend on those chilly mornings when we had to trudge down to the sheep shed to help with chores, something we were not always so quick to want pull ourselves away from the warmth of the fire and a hot bowl of porridge to do! It was times such as this that I recall being told more than once to “Rattle ya dags”! A quintessential kiwi saying which basically translates to hurry up and get a move on!
