Crochet pattern for a scatter rug / floor covering.

I really like this rug, and had so much fun designing it! As a crocheter, you were likely drawn to it because of the complex diamond design and the use of multiple colors. You recognize that these effects are not easy to achieve in crochet -- especially all together in one project -- but this rug is actually quite easy to make. It utilizes a simple technique I developed called Reversible Image Crochet. This technique eliminates multiple ends (that need to be sewn in) and carrying multiple strands of yarn. It also gives you clear images that are identical (in opposing colors) on both sides of your work! That’s right, this rug is completely reversible! I hope you will give crocheting it a try. I taught this Reversible Image Crochet technique recently, at the Creative Festival in Toronto, and the feedback from my students was really, really positive.

I used cotton to make this rug. It would look stunning in any bathroom, and as you can see from the photos, it really “pops” when placed on a hard wood floor. I also think it would be ideal in a cottage setting or in a child’s room.

This pattern provides instructions to crochet a rug that measures approximately 24.5” wide and 36.5” long.

This crochet rug pattern is suitable for an intermediate crocheter. It has been tested for clarity and accuracy by a professional crochet designer. I am confident it will make for a happy crochet experience.
