This is a 2-needle version of Ribbed Square by Hewitt and Daley from their book “Motifs, Borders and Trims in Classic Knitted Cotton”, 1988. Their version in knitted in the round which is more challenging than this 2-needle version.
4 right triangles are sewn into a square. Squares are sewn together to make a table runner, baby blanket or bedspread, etc.
Any block-able thread or yarn and needle size can be used for this project. Triangle and square size will vary accordingly.
This is one of the simplest patterns for a counterpane block, making it easy to follow and easy to add or subtract rows to adjust size.
