When looking at photos of Rivendell, as depicted in the movie, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”, it is the blend of nature and architecture that stands out. Delicate scroll work mimics the flowing lines of nature. Everything is intertwined: delicate and beautiful.

It is the beauty of this Elvish design I tried to capture in these mitts. In particular, several images featured a beautiful gazebo, open, airy yet strong in its lines. The sweeping lines of the gazebo are echoed in Gandalf’s chair during the White Council. Indeed, it is reflected everywhere.

It is the lines of this gazebo I endeavored to capture on the back of the mitt beginning with the base pillars on the cuff, leading into the scrolling cables and twisted stitches up the back of the hand.

Size: One size fits most. When blocked and laid flat, the mitts measure 3 3/8 inches across. For smaller hands, go down a needle size than recommended.

Materials

• Approximately 400 yards (365m) of Sheepy Time Knits MCN yarn (1 skein= 400yd/365m per 3.5oz/115g), or similar. Sample knit in “Imladris” colorway. Note:Sample mitts used 80 grams of Sheepy Time Knits MCN
• 1 set of 5 US #1.5 (2.5 mm) and US#2 (2.75mm) double-point or circular needles, or size needles required to obtain gauge.
• Tapestry needle, cable needle (optional), stitch marker
