I love roses – their beauty, their thorns, their enrapturing scent. I love the stories my mother would tell us about her grandfather’s rose garden in Bayside, Long Island. I loved hearing how cars would line up for blocks to view his rose garden when it was in full bloom.

I loved how my mom would talk about picking Japanese beetles off the roses for her grandfather. As she told the stories I would envision my garden one day, full of blooms and heavy with scent.

So far my garden is not any where near the loveliness my mother described. But it is in it’s beginning stage. I have a beautiful pale pink climber, “New Dawn,” in my garden where I can see it from my kitchen sink window and I adore that rose.

The bottom “petal” portion of this shawl is meant to evoke the image of a rose opening and sharing it’s glory with us!

NOTE: the lace is charted and written! Hooray! =)
