I loved the book ‘Voyager’ and was so happy to see it translated on screen! So I created a lightweight crochet shawl that Claire or the other travelers might like to wear on a breezy evening on deck, even in warmer climates like Jamaica. The design is based on an image of a Scottish Thistle to remind them of home, even while their adventures take them halfway around the globe.

With ‘The Drums of Autumn’ beating loudly with Season 4 of the show, I have now added the larger version of this shawl with more coverage - made with Merino, it is warm enough for a Carolina fall.

About the pattern:

Scottish Voyage is an intermediate pattern that is worked in filet crochet, with a pretty border crocheted on; the pattern for the body is in chart format, the instructions for the border are written out.

My large sample was made with one 300+g skein of Wollmeise Lacegarn in ‘Puderdöschen’, but it would also look great in any other solid or semi-solid fingering weight or light fingering weight yarn or in cotton.

My small sample was made with two skeins of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in ‘Kauai’.
