The seahorse is worked from the end of its nose to the tip of its tail in the round. Short rows give the seahorse its shape, and knitting on the wrong side while doing short rows instead of purling gives him his banded look. The seahorse gets a bit fiddly at times, but stick with it, and you’ll be pleased with the result.

You will need to know how to knit in the round to do this pattern, as well as basic increases and decreases. Some knowledge of short rows would be helpful, as well.
