This cute cactus is ready for a hot sunny day with his festive sombrero. Okay, so don’t actually put him in the sun; He’s made of yarn, so he’ll likely fade, but you can put him on display anywhere indoors and he’ll feel right at home.
Size: Height: 6 inches (15.2 cm)
Level: Advanced Beginner
Requires familiarity with stitches (listed below), sewing parts together, and attaching safety eyes. A custom seamless join technique is used for color changes and is described in more detail in the pattern. If desired, you can substitute this join technique with the join method of your choice.
Stitches and terms used:
This pattern uses US terminology
• mr = magic ring
• sc = single crochet
• inc = increase (2 sc into the same stitch)
• dec = invisible decrease (sc into the front loops of the next 2 stitches)
• FLO = front loops only
• BLO = back loops only
• sl st = slip stitch
• ch = chain
• turn = turn work around and work in the opposite direction
Materials:
• Medium weight 4 yarn in desired colors (light green, light brown, brown, light beige, red, green, yellow)
• 3.25 mm crochet hook
• Fiberfill stuffing
• Small amount of black embroidery thread or yarn for the mouth
• 6 mm safety eyes
• Yarn needle
• Embroidery needle
• Scissors
• Small scrap of cardboard, or large plastic bottle cap for base
• Sewing pins
