This shawl was designed for Norway’s Constitution Day (May 17). It’s a top-down Faroese with shoulder shaping and gusset, which make it easy to wear as it sits on your shoulders without falling off. The body of the shawl is a simple diamond pattern that’s easy to memorize and the border features Estonian lilies with more than 850 nupps. The shawl is then finished with a crochet chain edging.

The pattern has been test-knitted. It assumes that you can read charts, cast on provisionally, and have some experience knitting lace. A link is provided for 2 techniques to work nupps.

This shawl is part of my series Dreams of Norway, which contains designs inspired by my adopted country. Here you can see some pictures of the kind of clothing worn by Norwegians to celebrate May 17.
