I wrote this pattern when my young friends began having their second babies. Natural cotton works for either sex and they look cute worn together. I used Blue Sky fibers organic cotton in Drift color. I also used size US8 Flexi flips, which I think are the easiest for this pattern. Four or five US8 double pointed needles can also be used.

Including pom pons, my hats weighed in at 58 grams (newborn) and 67 grams (toddler). This one pattern contains instructions for both sizes. I made a simple cardboard forms to create the pom pons and they are pictured in the pattern, along with a link to a useful you tube video that describes the method I’ve written in the pattern.

You will need a cable needle or an extra dpn for this pattern. The first time I saw a knitted cable I thought, “I could never do that!” Then I watched someone do it and realized it was far easier than I’d imagined!
