SKILLS
To knit this cardigan it is essential to be able to follow
charted instructions, you also need to know how to
knit and purl, knit flat and in the round, cast on stitches
with any method (although the long-tail cast-on
is recommended), pick up stitches, make increases
with the “make one away” technique (the one most
commonly used to cast on stitches at the underarm,
also known as the backwards loop method), and be
familiar with slipping stitches. Moreover, it is essential
to be able to follow charted instructions, as they are
used throughout the pattern and written instructions
are not provided.

CONSTRUCTION
This cardigan is knit seamlessly top-down. First, the back
is knit and stitches are put on hold when the desired
length of the armhole has been reached. Then, the front
panels are worked either one at a time or simultaneously.
Once the neckline depth has been reached, both
fronts are joined in one piece, which is knit flat until the
underarm. At the underarms, all three pieces are joined
to continue knitting the body of the cardigan, which is
finished with a bottom ribbing. Next, stitches are picked
up around the armholes and the sleeves are worked
in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up at the front
bands and neckline to finish them with a ribbed hem,
including buttonholes if desired.
