Slay Me KAL
“In every generation there is a chosen one. She alone will stand against the vampires the demons and the forces of darkness. She is the slayer.”
Buffy the Vampire Slayer turns 20 this year, and Tina from Blue Moon Fiber Arts and I decided to celebrate by doing what we do best: she designed a bunch of Buffy-themed colorways, I designed a Buffy-inspired shawl.
We are particularly tickled about the colorplay that inspired the design that inspired the colorplay: the same, Buffy-inspired colorway, two ways: one in Super Sparkle, one in Yaksi Fingering. The yarns take the dye in two very different, and delightful, ways.
This asymmetric shawl starts and ends the same way: with one single stitch. Along the way, you’ll play with striping, work some simple yet effective mesh lace, and create a lovely and stretchy edging.
The shawl takes three skeins of yarn: a skein each of Yaksi Fingering and Super Sparkle in the same Multicolor Wave/variegated in one of the Buffy colors, and a skein of Cloud Nine in a contrasting Shaded Solid/semi-solid/solid. It’s best if the Cloud Nine color complements but is also contrasting with the variegated one, because the vertical striping you see in the sample needs that contrast in order to be apparent.
I’ve put a bunch of potential color combos up in my Ravelry group: http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/shannon-squire-designs/360..., but it’s your shawl, so use what makes you HAPPY!!
The KAL begins May 1st, and the pattern will be released sometime before then. Order your yarn now, so we can all knit together this Spring as we re-watch Buffy (and Angel, don’t forget about Angel!). Order by April 21st, and you get a 15% discount on all three skeins of the yarn.
