A slice of sunrise is an asymmetric crescent shaped shawl / scarf with stripes and colour blocks inspired by morning views of pink fluffy clouds in blue skies at sunrise.

It is a long, shallow shawl with increases and decreases placed to create the unusual asymmetric shaping. It was designed with lots of drape to give you a good size accessory from a relatively small amount of yarn.

Skills
Knowledge of basic crochet stitches, techniques and terminology is assumed.
This shawl is worked in rows and uses simple stitches (US extended single crochet and chains), increases and decreases throughout. Stitch placement is key in this pattern. The shawl will benefit from some light blocking.
The pattern includes a colourwork chart to echo the colour changes you see in the sample, though you can use your own colour scheme too.

Materials
This shawl was intentionally designed to use a relatively small amount of yarn and as a great way to incorporate mini skeins. You will need approximately 130g 4ply / fingering weight yarn and a 4.5mm crochet hook, or size needed to meet gauge.

The item pictured uses John Arbon Knit by Numbers, 4ply, 100% Organically farmed Merino Wool, KBN 100g skein = 400m/440yds, 25g mini skein = 100m / 110yds
1 x 25g KBN minis 4 ply Shade 54 (yellow), 1 x 100g skein KBN 4 ply Shade 41 (turquoise), 1 x 25g KBN minis 4 ply Shade 67 (pink). I had some of each colour yarn left.

Size
The finished size of the blocked shawl measures approximately 200cm along the underside of the crescent and 35cm deep at the widest point.
