Something Blue Bridal Stole
In the working up of this bridal stole, I used Sublime’s Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK in the color button (51), which was a dream to knit. The silk lends a beautiful sheen that will help catch the light on her special day. This is sure to be a cherished gift, no matter what color you choose, and it’s possible that it could be an heirloom, passed from one bride to another, creating the “something old” and possibly “something borrowed” elements of the tradition as well.
The pattern is old shale lace, knit until your desired length. Please note that when blocking the stole it will grow, and make a swatch in the lace pattern so that you can plan accordingly. I used six balls of yarn and the final length was a lovely, flowing nine feet by 20 inches.
I like this wrap for everyday as well, especially during meetings or when reading, when sitting still can cause a slight chill over my shoulders -- this does just the trick!
NOTE: I used a bigger needle to create the openwork, but knitting to gauge would be fine, as long as you were okay with the finished product being a bit more narrow, or with doubling it to make a wider stole. The gauge doesn’t matter as much as it might in other pieces, but you want to knit a test piece to make certain your planning is correct for the final size and that you have enough yarn to achieve the length you prefer.
