This is a pattern for a modified tube, to make a cute pair of boy shorts. The gauge listed is for the lace pattern included in the pattern. I have included a very simple picture to give an idea of the construction.

I used recycled yarn, presumably laceweight, from a commercial lightweight sweater to make the original. Lace has a bit of stretch in it so it should accommodate a small range of sizes. The original is seen modeled on 36” hips. I would recommend trying sockweight yarn for a medium/large but I can’t say for sure how it would come out.

My silk/cotton set has held up reasonably well despite being machine-washed and dried. The ends curl a little bit but it doesn’t seem to have stretched out from what I can tell. I would HIGHLY recommend using a machine-washable yarn in a next-to-skin soft fiber. Avoid yarns known to be pilly.
