Traditional beaded items are usually crocheted with one thread, and all the beads from a charted design are carefully loaded onto a single thread in the order needed. The beauty of tapestry crocheting with beads is that each thread can be loaded with one bead color and only the color that is needed at the time is crocheted to form a pattern while the other thread is carried. The colored threads also contribute to the pattern and to a substantial fabric that provides the basket’s structure. This flexible medium offers fantastic design potential since the design is not locked in – colors may be changed at any time! The basket begins on the bottom, then spirals upwards. It is your choice to have the beads on the outside or inside of the finished basket, but it’s easier to crochet the basket with them on the inside.

The instructions and graph are for right-handed crocheters (there is another one for left-handed crocheters). For more about tapestry crocheting with beads, please look at my free video tutorial and for more about tapestry crochet, please look at my web page.
