I immediately fell in love with Pagewood Farm’s Hand Dyed Sock Yarn, Yukon, which is made of 70% merino, 20% bamboo and 10% nylon. You need one hank or 450 yards of your favorite sock yarn for all three sizes of the pattern. Cable pattern at both the leg and foot stretches extensively to accommodate a wide range of sizes easily: the 6.5” circumference unstretched at leg stretches to 9” comfortably.

Description: Knit from the cuff down and a slip stitch heel, the tiny squiggle cables are perfect to learn cabling without a needle. Toes grafted with Kitchener Stitch.

** Pattern includes detailed explanations including diagrams of needles for stitch placement and step-by-step chart for Kitchener Stitch as well. **

Note on Yardage: Patterns are written for each size to require only one hank of yarn. The leg of each size varies because of the increase in foot length. The sample (women’s medium/men’s small) knit in the picture has a 6” leg (which includes the cuff), the women’s large/men’s medium has a 5” leg and the men’s large has only a 3.5” leg. If a longer leg is desired, a second hank will be needed.

Needles: US size 1, 4 double pointed, or size needed for gauge.
Cable needle of choice.

Notions: stitch marker, yarn needle for seaming toe

Gauge: 8.5 stitches + 10 rows = 1” in stockinette stitch
13 stitches = 1” in (k2, p2) ribbing, unstretched, beginning with k2
15 stitches = 1” in cable pattern, unstretched
