The Staircase Trail Hat is a fast knit with a classic result. This hat is worked in the round with a garter stitch band and cables to the crown.

The pattern includes five sizes; 16 – 22½ inches in circumference. Since the garter stitch band is not at stretchy as a ribbed band, choose a size that is at least one inch smaller than the circumference of the wearer’s head.

We’ve made the hat in Jorstad Creek’s Marrowstone, a 4-ply DK superwash merino. An adult size hat uses about 150 yards, so one skein of Marrowstone is all you will need.

The gauge for the Staircase Trail Hat is 22 stitches over 4 inches in stockinette stitch. We used a US size 5 needle, but use whatever gives you the correct gauge,
