We’ve had so much fun hosting a mystery crochet shawl pattern that we’ve decided to do it all again this year with the Stash of Shells MCAL.

Starts 21st June 2019 and runs for 5 weeks!

This year’s theme is stash busting: this year’s pattern has been written to let you use a variety of your 4ply yarn up - whether it is ends from other projects, a set of mini skeins from an advent calendar or a series of full skeins or balls, you can make it work. Whether you want to choose a riot of colours or pick a range of textures to make it interesting this pattern will work well, you can even work it in just one yarn if you have enough. The pattern is flexibly written to let you make the best out of the yarn you have.
While we don’t want to give away too many spoilers, here are some details that might help you decide if you’d like to play along with us:

The pattern will make a large elegant wrap, the size can be varied according to how much yarn you have.

Its an easy pattern suitable for anyone from adventurous beginner upwards.

It has elements of unfussy lace which can be omitted if that’s not your style.

There is no counting to do and the pattern is easily memorised in each section so that you can take it with you on your travels, out and about this summer.

The number of ends you have to weave in entirely depends on how many different balls of yarn you have to use.

The pattern is released in “clues” or sections of the pattern. The first clue goes live on 21st of June with a clue a week at the same time each week for a total of five weeks clues. Each clue will take less than three hours to complete if you crochet at an average speed. You can work along at your own pace, some people in the MCAL will have each clue completed by that evening but plenty of others will be working away on Clue 1 in week five because life is busy.

What you’ll need:
You’ll get lots of information with the first clue about how to separate out your colours but for know all you need to know is that you want to grab around 250g/920m/1000yds of 4ply in total across any.
4mm hook
1 stitch marker.

Insufficient stash?! You are absolutely welcome to join us even if you are buying new yarn for the project. Just select a range of yarns you like. Or treat yourself to something new to complement some yarn you already have.
Want to make it in a different weight? Go for it! You’ll need to adjust your hook size to make a drapey fabric in the first clue and you may need a greater/lesser yardage to get a decent size shawl.
So do join us for the Stash of Shells MCAL. We’ll be hosting it in our Friends of The Crochet Project group on Facebook and using the hashtag #SOSMCAL on Instagram.
