Here’s an easy (and quick) but interesting knit that you can make in many iterations by changing the yarn and buttons (which are sewn on decoratively; there are no buttonholes).

Pattern offers two yarn weights (worsted and aran) and two sizes for each. The larger of the two sizes will fit most women; for a petite head or for a child, knit the smaller size.

Casting on, binding off, knitting, purling, picking up stitches along an edge, sewing on buttons
