I really love gansey socks. The texture of the fabric as well as the stories behind the patterns and the men and women that wore and knit the original garments is quite fascinating and a real glimpse back into history.

The October 2011 challenge on the SKA board for ‘textured socks’ was a great push for me to design some socks using some lovely gansey patterns. So here we go!

The fun thing with these socks is that you can knit them to look exactly as mine – and frankly, why wouldn’t you! … or you can repeat one of the four patterns four times around the sock, mirror the patterns on each sock, have total opposites – the choice is yours!

The yarn is a hardwearing super-wash merino/nylon blend that is easy to care for, but any other yarn that gets gauge will look just as good!
