This pattern is part of the collection History on Two Needles, by Annie Modesitt

The Sutton Hoo Helmet was unearthed in Suffolk, UK in 1938.

A first reconstruction of the mask in the 1940’s, based on pre concieved notions of the Saxon period, was discarded in 1968 and a new reconstruction in the early 21st century was based more firmly on the evidence of the fragments themselves.

My own knitted fabric take on The Sutton Hoo Helm is a simplified version of the original. It is a challenging knit, not to be taken on lightly!
